About the Artist
Naoko Ota
Painter
Naoko Ota worked in Japan for eighteen years teaching art to high school students. As an associate member of the art group Dokuritu-ten, her works were exhibited at the Tokyo Museum every year for nineteen years. Ms. Ota specializes in oil and tempera painting.
Her most important influence, Yasuo Taguchi, is an expert in tempera painting and a professor at Tokyo University of the Arts. It was he who recomended that she increased her progress and flexibility by painting with watercolor.
Ms. Ota was a member of Sogensyodo-kai, founded by Outei Kaneko, who created new ways of using Sho-do in within the realm of modern poetry.
She was an instructor of Japanese Ink-painting and Calligraphy at Resobox Gallery in 2011.
